Use of Hypochlorous Acid in Infections: Bibliometric Analysis of Scientific Literature
HOCL Trust Introduction:
Please note that this paper is a pre-print, and has not been subject to peer review. A very informative review of academic activity over the last four decades regarding infection control with HOCl. An good starting point for those investigating this aspect of HOCl use.

Abstract:
For many years, chemicals such as alcohol, chlorine compounds, and hypochlorous acid have been used to kill or control infections. Because a large amount of research has been published on hypochlorous acid, the authors wanted to analyze overall research trends on this topic. They used a method called bibliometric analysis, which studies patterns in scientific publications. The researchers searched the Scopus database for studies published between 1982 and 2024 that included the terms “hypochlorous acid,” “infection,” and “use.” Data were analyzed using specialized software to identify major research themes, leading authors, and key journals.
They found 574 published papers, most of them original research articles. Publication rates increased steadily over time, with most authors based in the United States. Research focused mainly on hypochlorous acid, human health, and infection treatment, while newer topics included immune cells, animal studies, and oxidative processes. Overall, the results show growing and diversifying interest in hypochlorous acid for infection control and medical applications.
